Grant Long – Founding Principal, Accredited Specialist Planning & Environment Law
Long Legal is unique due to the experience, objectives and goals of Grant Long. As Lake Macquarie City Council’s Town Planner and Legal Counsel, he has a unique understanding and ‘inside experience’ in the area of local government administration, planning, development and environmental matters.
Grant is an experienced and qualified Urban and Regional Planner for local government. While working at Lake Macquarie Council between 2002 and 2014, Grant was the in-house Lawyer. Here, he was pivotal in resolving significant regional planning and high-profile Court matters such as:
- BGP Properties Pty Ltd v Lake Macquarie City Council NSWLEC 399;
- Swansea RSL Club & Rosecorp Pty Limited v Lake Macquarie City Council NSWLEC  NSWLEC 381;
- Council of the City of Lake Macquarie v Wayne Jeffrey Morris NSWSC 387;
- Legal negotiator on the agreement for the redevelopment of Charlestown.
Grant has acted in the Land and Environment Court, Supreme Court, District Court, Local Court and Tribunals. He is a Solicitor able to act in matters of the High Court of Australia as has made numerous submissions to Joint Regional Planning Panels and consent authorities.
Grant has taught Law at the University of Technology, Sydney, and University of Newcastle. He has also prepared and taught courses for clients.
Grant is down-to-earth, driven, open, influential.
